An update on that Charlie Brooker thing can be found below…
Personally, I’d say an appearance from Davina McCall and former Big Brother contestants automatically devalues it, but time will tell. No doubt Aisleyne will get plenty of airtime in Brooker’s bewildering, ongoing campaign to get her work…

This sounds awesome, I hated Nathan Barley so I hope he doesn’t miss the mark on this one as well. I would rather they kept the BB rejects and Davina out of it though.

You hated Nathan Barley? Have you no sense of humour, man?
August 27, 2008 at 8:47 am
The reality TV guest stars sound more fitting in context with the plot of the show, rather then a bunch of random cameos.
August 27, 2008 at 8:54 am
True, George – but they can’t act. So long as all that’s required of them is inane waving, it’ll be fine.
Btw – I’m going to start putting up news nuggets like this on a daily basis. That’ll be fun, eh?

I thought Extras already did a postmodern glance at a postmodern format?
Still, if you work for Endemol why not use what’s at you disposal? And, as Nathan Barley proved, this bloke can write a good sitcom.

I didn’t give it much of a chance to be honest. From what I saw it was mostly shit, the first time I watched it was with my girlfriend at the time and I was kind of in the mood so watever was on was not me having sex so I wasn’t too keen to like it. I gave it a second chance and a guy was in a cinema with paint on his head or something, some attempt at satire of media types and how they follow fads or something. Load of pretentious bollocks.
I can’t wait for more news nuggets, it’s just a shame that I have to wait a whole day for the next one *waits impatiently*.

I loved Extras. I guess I’m on my own on Nathan Barley because all my friends thought it was the best thing since sliced Peep Show. I think I may check it out and give it a third go, I must be missing something.
August 27, 2008 at 9:16 am
I disliked Extras as I thought it misrepresented itself. It posed as sly mockery of celebrity, but by having celebrities lining up to appear, the joke dissolved. The celebs got it, and they liked it, so the satire was ground into the dust.
It also wasn’t very funny. Apart from Barry – he was good.
Nathan Barley broke new ground – and Julian Barrett proved himself to be quite a decent character actor. In my humble opinion.
There’ll be another news arse-nugget later.
Viva Forever.

Tombstone, it’s not your fault, Channel 4 made the brilliant decision to put it on in the Friday 9:00pm slot, since taken up by such groundbreaking television as the f***** N**** P******* and Balls of Steel, when everybody’s more likely going to be socializing rather then watching television. And even if they are watching television, they’re not going to be investing much time into it. The show got crap ratings and disappeared, though the DVDS in Virgin for 8 quid if you fancy it.

SH – The Ali G scenario, I fear.
August 27, 2008 at 9:20 am
I think in Extras wasn’t half as good as the office, which was a lot more post-moderny and ground breaking then Extras, but trying to follow the office is like trying to record a second album when your debut was Revolver
August 27, 2008 at 9:29 am
I don’t like Revolver. Or the The Beatles come to that.
Aqua’s first album however is quite simply stunning, so I will use that in your analogy to make it work for me.
Ah, that’s better – yes, I think you’re probably right.

My friend Ben is a zombie in this. He was an extra but his zombie walking was so good he got picked out to teach other people how to zombie walk and he got to kill off some of the main characters.
August 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
I remember the email asking for extras. To be honest, I could think of better things to do with my time… I bet they were overwhelmed by studenty zombies.
August 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
Dave – at least with Ali G we can say the jokes were good.
August 27, 2008 at 9:45 am
SH- Until Mohammed Alfied started rapping, I’d tend to agree. Of course, his spell in America saw a return to form, and a darker form of social satire.
August 27, 2008 at 9:48 am
Iamnot: I meant Revolver, the album by The Haunted. The Beatles were sack.
August 27, 2008 at 9:53 am
Barley wasn’t as funny on telly as on the TV Go Home website, which was a let down. Still funny no doubt, but it didn’t live up to my expectations.
As for this new thing, I’ll watch anything with a zombie in it, me.
August 27, 2008 at 10:01 am
I seen a zombie film at the weekend. A teen horror comedy zombie film. It was well good.

But it’s not out yet you CRIMINULL!!!!1
Good then is it? British or yankee film?
August 27, 2008 at 10:30 am
I saw it legally, pal – at Film4’s Frightfest….
It’s extremely good, I thought. We’re maybe not the target market but for what it is, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some mad good special effects too.
August 27, 2008 at 10:34 am
I’m well up for it then. That’s right, well.
August 27, 2008 at 10:40 am
Good. Good, good. (It’s ‘merican by the way).
August 27, 2008 at 11:38 am
I don’t think this looks very good, too much insider help and approval, but I’ll be happy to be proved wrong. I didn’t think Nathan Barley worked very well, though I enjoyed screenwipe and sporadically his column.
Nathan Barley works on Youtube in little 5 minute segments perfectly, but not as a drama, even though it has a perfect performance from the great Julian Barrett who is excellent.
August 27, 2008 at 3:38 pm
charliemingles – agree on nathan barley. a 3 out of 5. but the “very phonics” introduction video at the beginning of episode 4 (correct me if i’m wrong) is pure gold and so is “the rise of the idiots” article intro. nuff said.
August 27, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Indy – did you see my comment about ‘Let The Right One In’?
Cracking film, that.
August 27, 2008 at 4:09 pm
I’m STILL recovering from .Rec. Well it’s more ‘well, will other low-budget zomphonies ever seem so good again?’
August 27, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Rec’s a masterpiece and no mistake.
August 27, 2008 at 8:19 pm
If you own an XBox, feel free to buy Dead Rising. It’s a sandbox game in which you play a journalist trapped in a mall. Although the premise is a lawsuit waiting to happen, the game’s a lot of ‘bloody’ fun. Lol.
August 28, 2008 at 8:44 am
Great film on Zone Horror last night, Heartstopper. Anyone seen it? Pure wank but in the best possible way.
August 28, 2008 at 8:46 am
I was watching the football last night, whilst cooking soup (from scratch, not from a tin like what people like Piqued do).
Every time I had to check on the soup, I paused the game. This meant the game of football lasted forever. It was quite good.

sh: yup, saw the post on that one. is the book available in english as well? he’s really popular over here and there is talk of making movies of his other books too. his zombie book, “hanteringen av odöda” (“managing the undead”?), is even better if you ask me.
August 28, 2008 at 10:41 am
Handling The Undead – I checked it on Amazon yesterday. I’m buying both for my holiday reading next week…
He did a Q&A after the film, seems like a top man. Used to be a stand up before he started writing fiction.
August 28, 2008 at 11:11 am
if BB is involved then its going to go south 😦
August 28, 2008 at 11:22 am
South?
Bristol?
August 28, 2008 at 1:56 pm
sh: he is also part of a highly successful production company with some very inventive commercials and sit coms (by swedish standards that is). unfortunately “top man” is very close to smug bastard in this case. we hate it when our friends become succesful and so on…
August 28, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Ah… I see. Ah well – hopefully that won’t come across when I read the books…
